Abstract

Carapace subglobular, squarish or transversely rectangular, always broader than long, relatively thick; dorsal surface usually flat, slightly convex, with special sculpture or without it; lateral margins entire, without any dentation, diverging posteriorly; no junction between anterolateral and posterolateral margins. Front distinctly narrow, simple. Orbits long, shallow, not covering eyestalks; eyestalks elongate, exposed. Third maxillipeds swollen, with narrow gap between, merus as large as or larger than ischium. Chelipeds markedly robust, equal to slightly subequal, palm and carpus distincly enlarged, fingers long, apically pointed. Walking legs relatively large, flat, setal tufts between first and second walking legs. Abdomen of males and females with freely moving somites; somites 4 and 5 markedly modified, narrowed or serrated with setae. G1 with apical long process, characteristically curved medially, apically serrated with long spines. Genital opening of males and females sternal.
