Abstract
The development of a town center in an effort to improve the quality of the social environment and community can be seen from the existence of public open space and how much use, because the future availability of public open space will be increasingly difficult to obtain , so it is important to plan the existing public spaces being lost due to lack of use the space for the community and the surrounding environment. This research took a case study in the Malang Merdeka square. Where the condition of Malang Merdeka square current arrangement functioned more as a green open space in the city center of the space to accommodate its use as a public activity. For that we need a physical setting arrangement square that can function either as a green space and can accommodate the public in the city center . This study aims to identify determinants of physical activity in the setting of public open space. The foundation of the theory used in this study is public open space , behavior settings , environment and behavior . The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative . The subjects were the main users - Malang Merdeka square , the data collection method using a place - centered and person- centered mapping mapping . The results showed that the arrangement of the physical setting in a public space , can affect the behavior of the user in the activity in the square - square . Dirjen Penataan Ruang Departemen PU dalam jurnal online www.penataanruang.net menyatakan bahwa, ruang terbuka publik dan ruang terbuka hijau secara umum terkait dengan beberapa tantangan tipikal perkotaan, seperti menurunnya kualitas lingkungan hidup perkotaan, bencana banjir/ longsor dan perubahan perilaku sosial masyarakat yang cenderung kontra-produktif dan destruktif seperti kriminalitas dan vandalisme. Fenomena yang terjadi kondisi alun – alun yang ada saat ini lebih berfungsi sebagai ruang terbuka hijau tempat resapan air di tengah kota meski terdapat ruang publik di dalamnya akan tetapi pemanfaatan kurang direspon oleh Malang sebagai tempat beraktivitas di pusat kota sehingga perlu mendapat perhatian bagaimana penataan setting fisik alun – alun yang dapat berfungsi sebagai ruang terbuka hijau sekaligus dimanfaatkan untuk mewadahi aktivitas publik. Hal ini menarik untuk dikaji faktor setting fisik apa yang mempengaruhi kenyamanan masyarakat kota Malang memanfaatkan dan beraktivitas di alun – alun Merdeka kota Malang agar pemanfaatannya sebagai satu – satunya ruang terbuka publik di pusat kota dapat optimal. Kondisi setting ruang publik alun – alun merdeka dalam mewadahi aktivitas warga kota malang Dalam membentuk sebuah akitivitas di alun – alun Merdeka Kota Malang terdapat 2 faktor dari setting fisik kawasan yang saling mendukung terhadap adanya pola aktivitas masyarakat dalam pemanfaatan alun – alun yaitu : 1. Alun – alun penting keberadaannya untuk aktivitas sosial masyarakat karena saat ini semakin sedikitnya ruang terbuka publik di pusat – pusat kota, keberadaan alun – alun sebagai ruang terbuka publik dapat menjadi nafas dan bagian penting dari sebuah kehidupan kota ke depannya
