Abstract
This article describes how a program of minor home modifications offered free of charge was accepted by elderly people who have experienced a loss of independence. Of the 255 subjects to whom the program was offered, 69% had one or more modifications made to their home. Predictors of home modifications included lowincome status, good housing conditions,.no difficulty in managing budget, and recognition that home modif~cations might facilitate daily activities.
