Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the factors responsible for divorce among women who are undergoing the divorce process. Eleven women were selected by purposive sampling technique from the Bangladesh National Woman Lawyers' Association at Agargaon, Dhaka, who were enlisting legal support for their marital problems. An exploratory research design under qualitative methodology was followed. Results indicated that extramarital affairs, substance abuse, physical abuse, dowry-related problems, abandonment, interference from in-laws, polygamy, personality problems, criminal activity, and unemployment of husbands are the primary factors responsible for divorce among women in Bangladesh.
