Abstract
I read with interest the article “Risk factors for postoperative bleeding in bariatric surgery,” by Straatman et al. [1]. The authors tried to develop a prediction model to identify patients at risk for postoperative bleeding in bariatric surgery. They analyzed 32 possible predictors in the results of 59,055 patients registered in the Dutch Audit for Treatment of Obesity database. They found postoperative bleeding occurred in 1.5% of patients with one or more of the following risk factors: male sex, >45 years of age, body mass index <40 kg/m2, cardiovascular disease, and current procedure of sleeve gastrectomy.
