Abstract

This paper describes the facility database system (FDS) for managing electrical power plant layouts. FDS consists of electronic drawings and an equipment specification database. Electronic drawings represent the relations among power plant equipment and the equipment specification database consists of attributes and specifications of equipment. Conventionally, application developers receive power plant drawings and equipment specification in paper-form from plant makers. They create drawings and equipment specification database out of them. Nevertheless, this process leads to production of incorrect layouts due to poor drafting and human errors; it consumes lots of time too. It is safer to receive electronic layouts directly from plant makers through the Internet and adopt advanced information technology (IT). However, the above layouts are not directly useful to the application developers. In this paper, we propose to create a facility database system (FDS) for managing electric power plant layouts efficiently.
