Abstract

In this study, multifunctional platform consists of cobalt ferrite magnetite particles fixed in a hydroxyapatite have been synthesized by microwave assisted wet precipitation method. The synthesized samples were studied by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. TEM results showed that hydroxyapatite embedded cobalt ferrite platform calcined at 900 °C have core-shell morphology and showed a maximum saturation magnetization of 3.9 emu/g. Developing an efficient chemotherapy vehicle, magnetic hydroxyapatite was combined by major chemo agent doxorubicin by adsorption technique and exhibited controlled release to 98 h. The results indicate that the doxorubicin modified magnetic hydroxyapatite nanoparticles have great potential to be part of a specific drug delivery system for cancer treatment.
