Abstract

An effective method for the preparation of silver/graphene oxide (Ag/GO) nanocomposite was developed. The Ag nanoparticles with smaller size and regular structure were immobilized on GO nanosheets via UV-induced thiol-ene click reaction. The prepared Ag/GO nanocomposite can be uniformly dispersed in 500 N base oil. Tribological tests revealed that friction and wear respectively reduced by 38.8 % and 89.4 % after adding 0.5 wt% Ag/GO nanocomposite into 500 N oil at 200 rpm and 8 N. The XPS analysis confirmed that the protective films formed through physical adsorption and tribochemical reaction were deposited on friction surface. Throughput analysis, it was concluded that the superior tribological performance of Ag/GO nanocomposite might be derived from the collaborative effect of GO, Ag NPs, the silane coupling agent between them.
