Abstract

In this study, we synthesized Zr(IV) selenophosphate/xyloglucan (ZSPT/XG) bio-nanoparticles and investigated their uses in photocatalysis and antibacterial activities. The prepared ZSPT/XG bio-nanoparticles were characterized by using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Elemental analysis and UV–vis techniques. The XRD spectrum revealed the amorphous nature of the ZSPT/XG. The photocatalytic activity of ZSPT/XG bio-nanoparticles was investigated for the degradation and mineralization of deflazacort as pharmaceutical effluent from wastewaters and ZSPT/XG bio-nanoparticles demonstrated degradation of 87.04 % of deflazacort after 180 min of solar light exposure. Effect of reaction parameters of photodegradation reaction were also studied. The degradation efficiency greatly influenced by pKa value of pharmaceutical effluent and pzc value of bio-nanoparticle. The deflazacort degradation route was evaluated by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). ZSPT/XG bio-nanoparticles were tested for antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria.
