Abstract

Membranes can be fabricated by combining with photocatalyst materials to produce photocatalytic membranes. In this study, an HPW12O40/TiO2 photocatalyst was incorporated into a polyether sulfone (PES) membrane in order to improve the membrane characteristics and performance for removal of methylene blue. The advantage of using photocatalytic membrane for dye removal is apply simultaneously separation and photocatalyst process. In this research, methylene blue was used as the feed solution and UV light irradiation was applied to activate the photocatalyst. The PES/HPW12O40-TiO2 membrane increased in flux (27%) and rejection (41%), compared to filtration without UV irradiation. This membrane was potentially utilized to remove methylene blue dye wastewater.
