Abstract

We examine the antibacterial and antifungal activity of the magnetic carbon aerogel composites (Fe3O4/C) were prepared by simple hydrothermal followed by the co-precipitation method. The carrot was used as a carbon source and FeSO4·7H2O and FeCl3·6H2O were used as a metal source. A similar synthetic procedurewas used to prepare different Fe3O4/C nanostructured composites (45, 60 and 75 wt%) and for the comparison purpose, pure Fe3O4 nanoparticles were prepared without the addition of carbon. The preparation of Fe3O4/C composites has been confirmed by XRD, FTIR, FESEM and TEM analysis and their antibacterial and antifungal activity against Staphylococcus aureus-902 & Escherichia Coli-443 and Aspergillus Niger & Candida albicanshashas been studied. The synthesized Fe3O4/C composites are found to be extremely toxic against S. Aureus- 902 & E. Coli-443 and A. Niger& C. Abicans. The newly fabricated Fe3O4/C composites could be effective antibacterial & antifungal properties, the corresponding synthetic approach used in various filed such as energy storage devices, adsorbent of removal of toxic dyes and heavy metals, and catalysis for the pharmaceutical field.
