Abstract
Spectral measurements of long-period fiber gratings (LPGs) were performed in the few-mode region. LPGs of various grating periods were fabricated using an amplitude mask tilted for the wave front of a writing excimer-laser beam. The excitation of each LP01 and LP11 mode was performed with offset launch. The excited modes were analyzed with the observation of fiber output patterns for various offsets. The difference in the wavelengths and losses of attenuation peaks of LPGs was measured for various offsets. Computer simulation of transmission spectra for the LP01, LP11, LP21, and LP02 modes was also performed, and the results agreed with the experimental results qualitatively.
