Abstract

Heat Transfer and Pressure drop experiments have been conducted in a duct with various aligned arrays of discrete rib turbulators, having gaps at both spanwise ends and/or having a gap in the middle. Obtained local heat transfer coefficients show quite unique distributions in the thermal developing region due to the three-dimensional thermal structures affected by the effect of rib gaps, whereas they show more uniform distributions in the thermally fully developed region. The staggered arrayed discrete ribs show large heat transfer enhancement. Since the pressure drops of discrete ribs show smaller value than that of the full span rib, the staggered arrayed rib is suggested to be the best performance in the present study.
