Abstract
The care of patients with uveal melanoma is potentially about to take another leap in the right direction. Recently, there has been extensive research into the early detection of small choroidal melanomas, features of choroidal nevi predictive of malignant transformation, cytogenetic analysis and prognosis of patients with uveal melanoma. The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive review of benign nevi of the uveal tract, as well as uveal melanoma and its associated risk factors, clinical features and diagnosis. This article will also review the recent developments in the field that are not only addressing efforts toward earlier and more accurate diagnosis of this condition but also the overall approach to the management of local disease and metastases.
