Abstract

This paper proposes a method for determining optimal fittings of the Rice formula on the tails of level crossings histograms related to traffic load effects. An optimal fitting is obtained through a series of statistical tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov test) between successive fitings and a tail ofthe level crossings histogram. It is the fitting corresponding to the largest number of class intervals and verifLing an acceptance level p of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. This optimal fitting is then used for the extrapolation ofthe traffic load effects versus any return period.
