Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical curative effect,indications and complications in extraction of intraocular foreign body (IOFB) from the limbal incision.Methods Eighteen eyes of 18 cases of IOFB were analyzed retrospectively,which underwent vitrectomy combined with removal of IOFB from the limbal incision.The intraoperative and postoperative complications were analyzed.Results Intraocular foreign bodies were extracted successfully in all of the eyes.During the surgery,2 eyes complicated with laceration of lens capsule.One eye with foreign body fallen into the vitreous cavity,and then the foreign body was successfully removed.No other complication occurred,such as infectious endophthalmitis,retinal detachment,iatrogenic choroidal detachment,other complications associated with surgical incision.In the followup of 3 to 12 months,average (5.25 ± 1.14) months,the BCVA increased in 14 eyes,unchanged in 2 eyes,and decreased in 2 eyes.Conclusion Vitrectomy combined with removal of intraocular foreign body from the limbal incision is an effective method,which is a simple,less invasive operation,with fewer complications.It is mainly applied to larger IOFB with traumatic cataract and vitreous retinopathy.
