Abstract
The formation and extraction of osmium complexes with 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol and their application to the spectrophotometric determination of osmium were studied. The procedures for the fast and accurate determination of osmium, based on the reduction of osmium(VIII) to osmium(VI) by ethanol and the spectrophotometric measurement of the osmium(VI)-PAR complex in aqueous ethanol media or in the extract obtained with tetraphenylphosphonium chloride in chloroform, are described. The composition and nature of the complex species measured were determined by solution study and by characterization of the isolated solid compound.
