Abstract

Junior Enterprise is a non-profit civil association which aims to provide the application of knowledge obtained by students throughout their undergraduate studies. The aim of this study is to show the contributions of junior enterprises to higher education, identifying what leads university students to participate in these organizations, as well as the types of activities and skills that are developed. The research method adopted was the multiple holistic case study. Participants of the study were 108 university students who are members of 11 junior enterprises from different undergraduate courses based at the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri. Data were collected in an online semi-structured questionnaire and submitted to descriptive statistical analyses. Results suggest that university students perceive the need to search for opportunities to complement their academic studies. Their experiences favor professional growth, provide practical application of knowledge, and enable the development of skills such as teamwork and problem-solving skills.
