Abstract

A method proposed by W.H. Senn has proven to be a powerful tool in the analysis of power line carrier (PLC) systems on horizontal transmission lines. A similar method, applicable to the more general case of delta transmission lines, would be highly desirable. In this paper, the validity of Senn's method, when applied to delta lines, is investigated first. Secondly, an extension to the method in order to account for the departure from the horizontal line geometry is proposed. The performance of Senn's method and of its extension are assessed by comparisons with exact modal transformations. It is concluded that the application of both Senn's method as a first approximation and its extension allow for the design of reliable PLC systems on delta transmission lines.
