Abstract

Purpose: There is emerging evidence that hypertension is a comorbidity in many osteoarthritis (OA) patients and is mechanistically linked to the progression of OA due to age, obesity, hormonal disbalance etc. A group of cardiovascular drugs, such as nifedipine, are well known voltage-operated calcium channel (VOCC) inhibitors, which prevent high pressure in blood vessels in people struggling with hypertension.VOCCs are crucial for intracellular ion intake, leading the cells to a chain of metabolic reactions, while VOCC subunit CaV1.2.
