Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of signal transduction and activator of transcription-5 (STATS) and WW domain-containing oxidoreductase (WWOX) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and relevant research. Methods The protein expressions of STAT5 and WWOX in forty resected tissue samples from patients with NSCLC and twenty normal lung tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The expression of STAT5 protein in NSCLC was significantly higher than that in normal lung tissue, while the expression of WWOX protein in NSCLC was significantly lower than that in normal lung tissue (all P d0.01). STAT5 expression was relevant with histological type of NSCLC. The expression of STAT5 in adenocarcinoma was significantly higher than that in squamous cell carcinoma ( P 〈0.01). WWOX expression was relevant with lymph node metastasis. The expression of WWOX in tissues with lymph node metastasis was lower than that in tissues without lymph node metastasis ( P 〈0.05). There was a negative correlation between STAT5 protein expression and WWOX protein expression in NSCLC ( P 〈0.05). Conclusions In NSCLC,STAT5 overexpresses and WWOX is loss of expression. The expression of STAT5 is concerned with histological type of NSCLC, and the expression of WWOX is concerned with lymph node metastasis. In the pathogenesis of NSCLC,WWOX may play a role in tumor suppression by inhibiting STAT5 system, promoting apoptosis.
