Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of serum soluble endoglin (sEng) and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt-1) in preeclampsia. Methods Serum levels of sEng 1 and sFlt-1 were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results The serum level of sEng of the preeclampsia group (6.39±2.15) ng/ml was significantly higher than that of the control (2.16±0.31) ng/ml, P<0.01, especially of early-onset severe preeclampsia. The serum level of sFlt-1 of the preeclampsia group (411.11±80.19) pg/ml was significantly higher than that of the third trimester group (27.57±4.36) pg/ml, but sFlt-1 did not correlate with the most severe forms of the disease. Conclusion Serum levels of sEng and sFlt-1 are significantly increased in preeclampsia, and the serum level of sEng is even higher in severe preeclampsia patients.
