Abstract
Objective To detect the expression of Med-19 mRNA and protein in bladder urothelial carcinoma and to investigate the correlation between Med-19 gene expression and clinicopathological features. Methods Med-19 gene was detected in 64 bladder cancer and 20 normal bladder epithelium tissues by using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting. The results were analyzed in relation to the clinical data. Results The expression of Med-19 mRNA and protein in bladder cancer was significantly higher than in normal bladder epithelium tissues (P < 0.01).The expression level of Med-19 in neoplastic tissues was positively related to the tumour size, clinical stage, tumor grade, the lymph node metastasis and primary or recurrent cancer cells (P < 0.05),but not with sex and age (P >0.05).Spearman rank correlation analysis indicated that the expression of Med-19 mRNA was positively correlated with its protein expression (r =0.892,P <0.01).Conclusion Overexpression of Med-19 gene in bladder cancer may be associated with tumor progression. Key words: Bladder urothelial carcinoma; Med-19 gene
