Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of asarone injection on related inflammatory factors and interleukin-25 (IL-25) in asthmatic mice. Methods BALB/c mice were randomly divided into normal control group, asthma group, asarone group and dexamethasone group. The mice model of asthma was established by inhaling chicken ovalbumin (OVA). The hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining was performed to the lung tissue to observe the pathological changes in the groups respectively. The white blood count and the eosinophil count were observed. The BLAF and serum were collected for detection of IL-25 level using ELISA kit, qRT-PCR was performed to detect the expression of IL-25 mRNA in the lung tissue. Results The inflammatory infiltration can be observed in the asthmatic mice with the use of HE staining, the infiltration extent of asarone group and dexamethasone group were lighter than to asthma group. The total number of eosinophil in group of asthma was higher than that in the group of control (P<0.05), and higher than asarone group and dexamethasone group (P<0.05). The level of IL-25 in the serum and BALF of asthma group were higher than control group (P<0.05), while compared with asthma group, the level of IL-25 were decreased in asarone group and dexamethasone group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The asthma group showed significantly higher levels of IL-25 mRNA than the control group (P<0.05), and the expression of IL-25 mRNA significantly decreased compared to asarone group and dexamethasone group (P<0.05). Conclusion Asarone can decrease the expression of IL-25 and the count of eosinophil to inhibit the airway inflammation, and played a role in the treatment. Key words: Asthma; Asarone; Interleukin-25
