Abstract

Objective To determine the expression of IκB kinase β (IKKβ) in breast cancer and normal breast tissues, and to investigate its clinical significance. Methods The surgical specimens of 80 patients with breast cancer, who were hospitalized in the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University between January 2004 and December 2014, were included as the subjects in the study. Ten normal breast tissues from a contemporary cohort were included as the control. The expression of IKKβ in the breast cancer and normal breast tissues was determined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) , respectively, and its correlation with the clinicopathological parameters of breast cancer was analyzed. Results The positive expression of IKKβ in the breast cancer and normal breast tissues was 62.5% (50/80) and 10.0% (1/10) , respectively, and there was statistically significant difference between the two groups (P 0.05). Conclusion IKKβ expression is correlated with the occurrence and development of breast cancer, which may play an important role in the occurrence and development of breast cancer. Key words: Inhibitor κB kinase β; Breast neoplasms; Immunohistochemistry
