Abstract
Objective To explore the expression of B cell translocation gene-1 (BTG-1) mRNA and protein in gastric carcinoma tissue and its clinical significance. Methods Immunohistochemical staining [streptavid-in-peroxidase (SP) method] and in situ hybridization were used to detect BTG-1 protein and mRNA expression in 197 cases of gastric carcinoma and 65 cases of normal gastric epithelia. The relationship between hypoxia inducible factor (HIF)-2α expression and clinical pathology of gastric carcinoma was analyzed. Results The rate of BTG-1 mRNA in normal mucosa tissue and cancer tissue was 81.5% (53/65) and 23.9% (47/197) respectively (χ2=69.901, P<0.05). The positive rate of BTG-1 protein expression in normal mucosa and cancer tissue was 84.6% (55/65) and 29.4% (58/197) respectively (χ2=60.657, P<0.05). The expression of BTG-1 mRNA and protein was obviously correlated with the infilatration, TNM grade and lymphatic metastasis in gastric carcinoma tissu (P<0.05). Conclusion The expression of BTG-1 mRNA and protein is up-regulated in gastric carcinoma tissue, which may be related to the occurrence of gastric carcinoma.
