Abstract

To examine whether exposure to family planning messages (EFM) was negatively associated with feminizing contraception (FC) and the risk of stigmatizing female users (SFU) among partnered men in northern Nigeria, we analyzed the 2018 Nigerian demographic and health survey (4472 partnered men aged 15–59). The results from the multinomial logistic regressions showed that EFM was negatively associated with the FC (vs. no FC) and the risk of SFU versus the risk of no SFU. EFM was negatively associated with the risks of not knowing about FC (vs. no FC) and SFU (vs. no SFU). Exposing partnered men in northern Nigeria to family planning messages may play a vital role in reducing their tendency to feminize contraception and stigmatize female users.
