Abstract
Using data of 210523 students in 51 countries from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this study aims to understand how bullying victimization affects adolescents’ academic literacy and social integration . We introduce Logistic model to analyze the main factors affecting school bullying and use coarsened exact matching, structural equation model to analyze the mediating effects of school absenteeism, study time, and online socialization on campus bullying and student literacy. Our results suggest that male, middle school students, repeaters, and truancy are more likely to suffer from bullying . Moreover, students suffered from bullying have lower mathematical, reading, and science score, as well as weaker classmate relations, campus belonging, and sense of loneliness . Considering the mediating effect, t he crowding-in effect of campus bullying on the study time positively affects the development of subject literacy, while it negatively influences the social integration. Besides, school bullying dramatically increases absenteeism, which in turn has a negative impact on students' academic literacy and social integration. In contrast, online socialization is significantly and positively correlated with the students' academic literacy and social integration. The findings highlight the importance of establishing a coordinated campus security risk prevention and control system, to build a multiple security protection network between students, schools, families, and society.
