Abstract

One of the main problems in electromagnetic biology, occupational and environmental hygiene and epidemiology is metrology. Some of the priorities of the WHO Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Project are connected with human exposure and risk assessment by EMF with different frequencies in occupational and residential area. The idea of this project to “incorporate research results into WHO Environmental Health Criteria monographs where health risk assessment of exposure to EMF will be made” is impossible without any standardization of the measuring and exposure assessing methods. The priorities of research in this field are connected with experiments and epidemiological studies with exact dosimetry, full characterization of the exposure techniques and the EMF characteristics. Data collection and analysis have to be made to ensure the right conclusions for the biological results; standard protocols responding to quality assurance (QA) statistics, and to good laboratory practice (GLP) procedure have to be used in every study.
