Abstract

The problem of the safe operation of the steel yielding support made of V-shape profile “SVP” is considered. The examples of joint clamps deformation in the mine workings are shown. The results of joint clamps bench testing are given. It is shown that during the work of joint clamps the adhesion and slip of yielding joint elements are interchanged and the clamps are warped. The abrupt transition from the adhesion to slip is accompanied by a jump of clamps with sparking. The sparks’ temperature and life-time are enough to ignite a methane-air mixture. To exclude sparking the improved design of the joint clamp that eliminates its warping is proposed.
