Abstract

Women participation in major aspects of sport especially in Africa until recently has been the exclusive reserve of men due to socio-cultural and biological reasons. Men formulate policies, mentor up-coming sport men and women, and determine the practise and direction of sport even when such issues have to do with women. This has affected women participation as sport audience, sport supporters and financiers, and even as professionals. The question that readily comes to mind is what have been the factors responsible for this? Is this development an indication of apathy towards sport management among women? What have been the efforts made at the corporate and individual levels to encourage women participation in the management of sports? These and other issues become the concern of this discourse as it seeks to assess women participation in sport management and training in Nigeria.
