Abstract
This study analyzes the narrative structure of “Hujra”, a novel written by Saudi novelist Amal Al-Faran, by delving into the main character’s consciousness and world of dreams. By exploring the character’s dreams, which reflect and express their real world, the study aims to dissect and understand the novel’s narrative structure. Additionally, the study seeks to comprehend the technical formation of the novel’s narrative structure enabling it to convey the social reality and cultural values addressed in the text. To analyze the text, the study draws upon cultural criticism and cultural studies as well as Gaston Bachelard Theory of Material Imagination and Theory of time. The study also incorporates Sigmund Freud’s Dreams and Repression Theory, along with several other theories associated with the structure of narrative discourse as formulated and articulated by literary theorist, as: Gérard Genette and Seymour Chatman
