Abstract
Numerical optimization techniques can solve many problems in an elegant manner. However, applications on large scale are hampered by convergence problems. Artificial intelligence techniques have complementary characteristics to procedural programming languages. Using expert system technology a good part of these convergence problems can be solved. Using a balanced combination of conventional programming languages and expert system programming languages, a totally new approach for numerical optimization has been created, which has been given the name Expert Governed Numerical OPtimization (EGNOP).
