Abstract

Single-electron-detachment (SED) cross sections for 8--30 keV singly charged negative copper ions in collision with helium, neon, and argon are measured. The SED cross sections for ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}+\mathrm{Ne}$ and ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}+\mathrm{Ar}$ are found to be of similar magnitude and energy dependence, and are much larger than that for ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}+\mathrm{He}.$ A general discussion of the results is given.
