Abstract

In this study undergraduate student in psychology, economics and physics were asked to identify factors perceived important to the emergence of creativity during the childhood of a select group of highly creative individuals. Critical childhood influences were identified before and after an experimental intervention which consisted of the addition of an audiovisual (documentary film) in a course on the psychology of creativity. Data from this study shows that the traditional techniques of teaching, studying lecture materials and independent reading of biographies of creative people, does not result in a deep of understanding of the problems associated with genesis and the creative person. Research participant's academic discipline (psychology, physics and economics) influenced perception of factors in the development of creativity and had a differential impact on the processing of the learning resources in the Psychology of creativity course.
