Abstract
The accuracy of the regeneration timing is very important for safe and complete regeneration of diesel particulate filter (DPF). In this research, pressure drop performance and regeneration safety was studied experimentally. The relation between loading time and accumulated soot mass in the DPF was obtained, and the pressure drop versus exhaust volumetric flows curves under different soot loads were obtained. They could provide basic data on the exact soot mass estimation for properly setting start timing of a regeneration control. From the drop to idle test, it was observed that the soot mass limit of the DPF used in this research was above 7g/L. Uncontrolled DPF regeneration was safe when the soot loading level was 7g/L.
