Abstract
It is critical to evaluate the strength of concrete structures during construction. Here, we propose a remote real-time monitoring system (RRTMS) and method for determining concrete strength. The RRTMS includes wireless monitoring modules based on IoT and remote analysis software based on cloud services. The corresponding method introduces one concept of reference conditions and reference tests. A case study of a 250 m building during construction using a highrise building machine (HBM) is presented to illustrate the RRTMS and method. A series of laboratory tests and field tests for real-time monitoring of concrete strength was conducted. Experimental findings show that the strength of the concrete structure can be monitored remotely in real time through the RRTMS, which accomplishes the safe climb of the HBM during construction. The application results further indicate that the RRTMS and method can achieve nondestructive, high-precision and real-time monitoring of the strength of concrete structures.
