Abstract

The chapter describes the experimental research and finite element analysis on a steel frame structure with a new infilling cavity wall. The contrasts between the specimens with and without infilling wall are treated in the chapter. The experimental research and finite element analysis on a steel frame structure with a new lightweight infilling wall show that the lateral resistant rigidity, ultimate strength, ability of energy consumption, and ductility of this structural system are better than a common steel frame structural system. This kind of steel frame structural system with new infilling material can be applied to a low-rise and multi-storied dwelling due to its advantages in many aspects. The new lightweight infilling cavity wall will not only be used for the partition wall and the perimeter wall but also for the working lateral resistant structural member in the whole structural system.
