Abstract

This study presents the pull-out capacity of threaded steel glued into laminated bamboo under axial load. Two-component epoxy resin was used. Pull-out tests were conducted to evaluate the effects of edge distance, glue thickness, anchorage length, threaded steel rod diameter, and slenderness ratio (the ratio of anchorage length and diameter of the threaded rod) on the capacity of connections. Test results showed that the pull-out capacity was affected by rod diameter, anchorage length, edge distance, and glue line thickness, and the ultimate failure load increased with slenderness ratio up to a critical value beyond which no further increase was achieved. The main failure mode was shear failure which was located at the bamboo/adhesive interface. Test results were also compared with several design equations and models established for wood elements with glued-in rods.
