Abstract
The phase and magnitude of the auto-bispectrum are used to locally measure the phase difference and coupling level between the fundamental and subharmonic components of a free shear layer. Two cases in which both modes are excited at different relative phases are examined. The results show that the subharmonic growth is continuous beyond the linear region when the coupling between the two modes is high and the phase difference is near zero. When the two modes are not coupled at the end of the linear region, the subharmonic growth is suppressed.
