Abstract

Combined iridectomy and iridotomy with single suture were performed in 3 cynomolgus monkeys at different time intervals before enucleation of the eyes. Morphological features at the finestructural level of reaction to injury in the primate iris were identified. Particularly the formation of fibrin meshworks and the appearence of the cells of acute and chronic inflammation were examined. A hypothesis to explain the failure of the primate iris to form scars was expressed.
