Abstract

The present research work pertains to the study of deformation and densification characteristics and mechanical properties of Mn added low alloy steels. The sintered and hot upset powder metallurgy (P/M) low alloy steels such as Fe-0.2%C, Fe-0.2%C-0.5%Mn and Fe-0.2%C-2.0%Mn were used for the plastic deformation, densification and mechanical properties of the alloy steels. The surface morphology of the specimens was correlated to the deformation, densification and mechanical properties of the low alloy steels. It is observed that addition of Mn affects the plastic deformation property of the material and enhances the mechanical strength of the P/M alloy steel.
