Abstract

The structural, morphologic and mechanical characterizations of phase transformations in Ti-18 %Nb-1.4 %Ge were examined. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations revealed Widmanstätten-type structure formation. The measured average Vickers microhardness was found to be HV=0.40GPa which agrees well with the recent findings of theoretically investigated Ti-15 %Nb-X%Ge alloys. Calculated Young's modulus (E) value from Vickers hardness yields E=33.1GPa where this result suggests satisfactory conformity of the examined alloy as a promising biomaterial.
