Abstract
This work investigates the performance and the emission characteristics of Premixed Charge Compression Ignition engine (PCCI). The test fuels used in this experiment are diesel, citronella (Cymbopogon) oil – diesel blend (B20), cedarwood (Cedrus) oil – diesel blend (B20). The test fuel was injected through a pre-chamber setup in the intake manifold of DI CI engine. Experiments were done with neat diesel, citronella oil – diesel blend (B20), cedarwood oil – diesel blend (B20) and the results indicate that for the blended fuels a) there is an increase in brake thermal efficiency, b) there is a simultaneous reduction in the CO emission and c) HC & NOx emissions were relatively higher in the case of blended fuels when compared to neat diesel.
