Abstract
We demonstrate a measurement system for the experimental investigation of propagation dynamics of terahertz (THz) wave packets using electro-optic (EO) sensing. Wave packets are modeled by the superposition of harmonic continuous-wave frequencies. Amplitude and phase distributions of electromagnetic waves are measured and summed to visualize wave packet propagation dynamics. In a proof-of-concept, visualization of wave packets with the center frequency of 120 GHz was demonstrated and compared with the 3D simulation. The measurements agreed well with the simulated results. The proposed technique can be used to investigate propagation dynamics in the THz region which is useful in THz wireless communication.
