Abstract

Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) has become a choice of reinforcement for concrete and it has the following characteristic features such as high tensile strength, low weight, good fatigue strength, good impact and compression properties. Because of these advantages, these FRPs are used to replace steel with different FRPs. In the present work, basalt FRP and glass FRP bars are chosen and compared with a comparison of tensile strength, compression, transverse shear and flexural behaviour of basalt FRP & glass FRP bars of 8 mm and 10 mm in diameter, respectively. The tensile test, compression, shears, and flexural tests were carried out as per the ASTM standards. The experimental results showed that the basalt FRP bars have considerably higher tensile strength, compression, shear, and flexural strength compared with glass FRP bars.
