Abstract
In recent years, high damping rubber (HDR) bridge bearings have been widely used because of the excellent ability to provide high damping as well as flexibility. In the previous research, the change of equivalent shear stiffness due to aging has been studied. However, the effect of aging on the damping ratio of HDR bearing has not been investigated before. Lap-shear tests for HDR and cyclic tests of HDR bearings are performed in this study to obtain damping properties of HDR bearing after HDR bearings are subjected to the accelerated thermal oxidation test. Test results show that the equivalent damping ratio of HDR bearing slightly decreases due to aging, but the effect is insignificant when compared to the original damping
