Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to investigate the shear performance of composite beams with prefabricated U‐shaped reactive powder concrete (RPC) permanent formworks with normal strength concrete poured inside. Three‐point bending tests were performed on eight composite beams with prefabricated U‐shaped RPC‐reinforced formworks and one reinforce concrete beam. Additional parameters, such as the stirrup spacing, shear span ratio, and inner core concrete strength, were evaluated. The test results indicated that the prefabricated U‐shaped RPC permanent formworks increased the shear capacity of the composite beams. Under the same configuration, the bending cracking load, stirrup yield load, and peak load of the composite beams increased by 51.54%, 88.02%, and 78.38%, respectively. An analytical model was proposed to predict the shear strength of composite beams with prefabricated U‐shaped RPC formwork and validated using the experimental results.
