Abstract

Wood composite medium density fiberboards (MDF) find many applications in wood industries. Drilling is used often in the final operation of assembling the components. Delamination in drilling of medium density fiberboard is a serious problem, and it leads to heavy loss. In the present investigation, delamination associated in drilling of MDF board is investigated. The orthogonal array, the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) are employed to study the performance characteristics in drilling operations of MDF board using carbide tools. The machining parameters considered are spindle speed, feed rate and diameter of drill. The effect of machining parameters on drilling and their interactions have been studied in detail.
