Abstract

Recently, the air curtain, an effective device to isolate dust that can quickly spread, is frequently used in mines, tunnels, and other places that produce more dust. Meanwhile, a uniform air curtain will improve dust isolation. This paper analyzed the influence of air curtain diameter and internal air duct structure on air curtains' uniformity using Fluent simulation combined with experiments. Then, we simulated the effect of uniform air curtains on dust insulation in an actual construction tunnel. The study found that: with the increase in diameter, the air curtain was more uniformly formed, but there was a critical diameter which diameter continued to increase when the improvement effect of air curtain uniformity was not noticeable. Meantime, the critical diameter varies with the length of the air curtain. Moreover, based on the air curtain device with a 1m and a critical diameter of 180 mm, a wedge-shaped fan resistant-body was installed to increase the uniformity of the outlet air velocity u from 87.6% to 93.2%. After installing the air curtain in the tunnel, the dust concentration in the dust separation area increased significantly. The air curtain had the best dust separation effect before 320s, with the dust separation efficiency at about 75%.
